Our Junior Scientist Club is an opportunity for children to gain hand on experience of exciting and engaging experiments. The club runs weekly and is coordinated by Mr Clench, Head of Science at Avonbourne Secondary School. Children at the club are inspired to participate in exciting experiments, bringing the theory of Science to life.
With the school benefiting form its own dedicated Science Lab the children are fortunate to be able to conduct real life experiments is a specialist environment. All children have their own lab coats and safety googles. Example sessions include "forces and motion" where the children design, create and launch their own rockets!
We are also lucky to have Sixth Form students supporting the club as role models to our Junior Scientists. After our first session one child commented "I love science club. One day I want to study science at sixth form and at university so that I can be a scientist one day.”
Science club is another example of the wonderful opportunities that benefit the children at Avonwood by being part of our Multi Academy Trust which includes Secondary and Primary School subject specialists.
This six week club runs twice a year for Year 3 children on Wednesday afternoons from 15:30 to 16:30.
