Equality Act

Harewood College upholds the aims of the Equality duty detailed in the Equality Act 2010 which are:

  • Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation
  • Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not
  • Fostering good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not

Further to this, the college seeks to advance equality by:

  • Removing or minimising disadvantages suffered by people due to their protected characteristics
  • Taking steps to meet the needs of people from protected groups where these are different from others needs
  • Encouraging people from protected groups to participate in public life or activities where their participation is disproportionately low

In order to ensure compliance, the college have sought to encompass the needs of students, staff and governors, parents and the wider community at large. The principles which form the ethos of a college which has Equality at the forefront of its ideals are enshrined in our Equalities policy. Analysis and evaluations for these aims are ongoing and are part of the annual cycle of monitoring and review.
